Upstairs, Downstairs series two

20 Feb

Upstairs, Downstairs is back! Hurray! I love it so much.

Last night’s episode was the first in the second series and it had quite a few surprises in store, which I am resolutely not going to spoil for those of you in the US who haven’t seen it yet. Suffice to say that some people are VERY missed, other people are welcome additions, other people are still unutterably VILE and others are still ace.

Last night’s episode opened in the months immediately before the outbreak of the Second World War and involved a lot of fussing about with sand bags, air raid practices and gas masks while at the same time DRAMA ensued at 165 Eaton Place. There was even a brief excursion to pre-war Nazi Berlin (which looked much the same as pre-war London other than for a few strategically placed Nazi banners) where we were reunited with the horrific Lady Persie, who still has a fondness for wafting about the place in a femme fatale crimson dress and lipstick combo.

I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series brings. Did you watch it – what did you think?

Is it me or is Keeley Hawes a bit sickly sweet in this? Miss the old mother – and dont like Alex Kingstons character – hmm not sure what I thought of last night except that it was good, but I dunno maybe it was the mood I was in last night – the programme seemed to be lacking something … must be me ..

This is the best news I have had all day! Loved the first series, can’t wait for the second. I’m in the US so it’ll take a little while to arrive.

Am I the only one with an irresistible urge to map the characters onto the Mitfords? Clearly Lady Persie is Unity, and Lady Agnes is some sort of a blend between Diana and Debo.

Heh, no, not the only one. I’ve mentioned the Mitford similarities a couple of times on here, including in the post I linked to above, where I refer to Lady Persie as the ‘Evil Mitford’. ;)

Thanks for the preview of U/D! Was watching the Christmas episode of DA here stateside and am still reeling from all that! Don’t worry about spoilers as U/D is not on our TV schedule this year. Sob!

I’m so jealous! I really enjoyed the first season reboot. I have no idea when it’s going to air in the U.S or if it’s even going to. If they don’t air it I’ll have to buy the DVD. I had to buy the DVD of the Crimson Petal and the White since they never aired it here. They’re a bit Downton crazed here at the moment. However, they will be airing in April Great Expectations followed by Birdsong so I do have that to look forward to.
