I was recently very excited about getting a copy of Sun Princess by Sylvia Pell, a novel about the Princesse de Conti, daughter of Louis XIV. I remember reading it when I was a teenager and thinking it was rather ace and so am looking forward to reading it again now! I hope it hasn’t aged badly… :)

The novel is set in the later years of Louis XIV’s reign and focusses on the life of his eldest daughter by Louise de la Vallière, Anne-Marie, Mademoiselle de Blois who was later married to Armand, the Prince de Conti. It turns out that she prefers his much more dashing younger brother, François, who in turn has a thing for her younger sister Louise-Françoise, the daughter of Louis XIV and Athénaïs de Montespan.

Anne-Marie de Bourbon, Princesse de Conti.

Armand de Bourbon, Prince de Conti.

François de Bourbon. Clearly more of a catch than his big brother!

If only falling asleep on the sofa with one of my children was EVER as glamorous as this!
